A Look Back on 2016 + A Fool-Proof Plan To Make The Best of 2017 & Goals

What a year it has been! Ups and downs, smiles and frowns. I could say that this year has been rubbish, full of failures and sorrows. But, on the other hand, I could look on the bright side. I’ve visited many places. I went to Theme parks, library’s, museums and inside books and cinemas. I reached, 200, 300, 400 followers. I began blogging this year. I’ve won contest & competitions. I’ve accomplished good things. I’ve progressed in my school work. I’ve turned a year older. I watched Fantastic Beasts (yes, that really was a highlight!). I’ve read more books, discovered more chocolate as well as new blogs. I’ve met amazing people. I’ve done a lot and this 2016 couldn’t have been better. It really couldn’t have which is why I’d like to show you the highlights!

A Round-Up Of My Best Posts (2016)

Even though I’ve only been blogging for a year (So this is a round up my bests posts from my WHOLE blog), I thought I’d like to share some posts that got loads of attentions and some which deserved lots of attention but didn’t get much love!

  8.  Will Pens Become Extinct?

I know it’s only 8 out of about 100 (92 to be precise) posts but I’m choosing the best of the best.

Next up is a look at my new year resolutions of 2016 I made in this post.

I said in that post (almost a year ago!)

Secondly, I’m going to be doing way more reviews and take more interest in my blog. I’ve never taken my blog seriously so I am going to.

I know that was really short and badly written but I actually followed through with that small resolution. I began taking blogging seriously and this is why you’re reading this post today.

So, time for that fool-proof plan. You know how everyone says that they are going to make 2017 the best year? How they make all these resolutions and plans that get ditched a few days into January? Well, I’m gonna do that, but this time I have a fool-proof plan. One that I can’t fail. One I will be motivated to follow. And one that will make 2017 my most productive year. I really hope I can follow it through but by sharing this with you guys, I know I won’t just be shaming myself, but you guys will be ashamed too. So, that little bit of fear should ensure that I don’t go wrong!

Here’s what I plan to do:

  • Write out goals and resolution and share them on here.
  • Get a jar and bits of papers. Write on each scrap of paper something I would like to do (x365). put them in a jar. Every day, (in 2017) pick out a random one and do what it says
  • Write in my journal more so I can look back on memories and learn from them!
  • Write down 2016 regrets (according to research, this will make 2017 better!)

I will not write down my regrets here but in my journal, as they are pretty personal and I don’t feel like I could share them with you. The Jar idea is something I’m really excited about and will be sharing progress & pictures of how it turns out! I already write in my Journal but I want to make sure I don’t lose the habit and figured I should put it in my plan.  And as for the resolutions, keep readin’!

Time for my goals!

Be warned! All my personal goals are for me to do’MORE’!

-Go more places.

Do more things. I want to try and spend more time out and about, actually doing things, rather than being taken over by books, technology and social media. I really want to get out there, even if it’s at home, and do something. Be it creating, baking, visiting the park.

– Give more charity.

I never really think about giving charity unless there’s some sort of event or bake sale (yum…). This time, I don’t want anyone to bribe me with cakes, I want to donate money to the needy world and children myself. Hold charity events myself. Do fundraising activities myself. Of course, you guys can join me as well!

-Be more kind.

I really want this to be a year where I try not to snap at people, ignore people or laugh AT people. I want to make sure I’m always nice, try to control that temper of mine and give out more compliments.

-Be more eco-friendly.

I’ve always helped the environment. I don’t do much but I try to turn off lights, water, computers etc… when i can and they are not in use. But this year, I want to take it to the next level. I want to recycle anything possible, encourage being eco-friendly and help in any way I can.

– Reach 1000 followers.

This is a very achievable goal, in my opinion. I’m being very optimistic here and I really hope, with the help of you guys, I can reach this very high goal of 1000 followers! Who knows, I might get more? I mean I reached 400 followers in a year. Only 600 more for next year!

-Post more.

I haven’t posted enough this year, I really haven’t. There have been so many times in the year where I’ve left my blog for 2 weeks without notice. I just post so inconsistently. I don’t want a schedule but I want to make more time for my blog.

-Use Bloglovin’.

A friend of mine recommended actually USING my Bloglovin’ account instead of letting it collect dust, so for no -WordPress blogs, I’m going to try and use this.

-Find more blogs.

Seriously, if you know any blog that I’m not already following, then recommend it to me. As long as you think I’ll enjoy the blog, leave their link below, because I really love discovering new blogs, and 2017 is the perfect time for that!

– Launch the Try Something New  Blogging Challenge.

Some of you might have heard me talking about this and I really want to launch it really soon. Maybe even this year but I’m just going to add it on to the list just in case I don’t get to launch it this year.

-Reply to emails & messages quicker.

Especially for interviews, collabs and guest posts, I don’t reply fast. I get so many requests that it’s hard to keep up with everything and I do try my best.Sorry all1

-Use My bullet journal more.

Don’t get me wrong, I use my BJ so MUCH (you can find out why!), but I wish I got more time to write in it and use it more wisely and neatly. Also, make it more pretty because right now it’s just INK. I’ve seen other people’s and I just get SO jealous & I end up wasting time admiring videos and pictures of them.

How was your 2016? Good, bad or are there many regrets? What are your goals for 2017? I hope I can achieve all of them, do you think I will? I hope you had a Great Christmas, to those who are celebrating! How was your year? LET ME KNOW!! (And link to you year wrap-up posts here!)

  1. The fool-proof plan seems like a wonderful idea! Trying to do something new every day will definitely add a bit of spontaneity and refreshment to one’s life. I do hope you accomplish all your goals. Best of luck! 🙂
As for my wrap-up post, I’ve scheduled it for Friday. I’ll leave a link once I publish it if you’d like. I’m going to be posting my goals for 2017 in a later post, probably on January 2nd, because I’m yet to think about the coming year. I’m just looking at other people’s resolutions or plans for inspiration. 😛

  2. Wow, you had a great year, Mahriya! Your blog is seriously so lovely and pretty. *flails* And it’s amazing how your follower count grew so much in just a year! Do you think there’s a specific reason why? Just curious, because apparently I’m not productive enough in growing my follower count and could use some advice. 😂

    • Thanks, it was a great year, hoping 2017 can be even better! And aww, thanks (your blog is EVEN PRETTIER!) This was my first year blogging, so I’m surprised aswell. For me, 100 followers was the hardest to reach. I think it took me 3 months. Once I hit that milestone, my followers just kept on growing and growing. Like 100 every month or so (which is why im hoping for a 1000). Also, I think because WordPress is such an interactive community, my followers grew. I remember when i was on Blogger, I hardly got any follows. WordPress has such a wonderful community and I feel there is more interaction on there. Commenting and networking with other bloggers really gave me that extra boosts with followers. I think if you keep at networking and socialising, your followers grow. And I don’t mean leave short comments with your links, I mean actually following, reading and discovering blogs out of your comfort zome! Hope that helps…

  3. Lovely post, Mahriya! I hope 2017 is a wonderful year for you. 🙂

I just wanted you to know that I got a bullet journal for Christmas! I’m so excited. 😀 I filled parts of it out today, but I screwed up a few things and felt horribly mad at myself. I wanted to throw the book away and buy a new one, but my dad told me that it was okay. So I crossed out my mistakes, and wrote things under it, such as, “Mistakes Happen and that’s okay.” My habit tracker was successful, and although I made a small mistake, I was able to scratch it out without feeling bad. I then went on to create a page titled “Things I’m Learning from this Journal.” I wrote things to do with that mistakes happen, that they’re okay, and that my next month will be much better, and the the ones after that.

I’m not sure why I’m telling you this, but you’re an awesome listener and I kinda need some encouragement from a fellow bujo-er. Anyway, thanks for introducing me to the bullet journal! I taking a break from it (I don’t have much more to do), but I’m excited! 😀

  4. Love this so much. And for the “Graphics and designing my blog for free”, I can’t find the page that links to it. I would really like if you could do that to my blog since your blog is a beauty. Great tips and I’m sure you’ll grow your followers to 1 000. 💜💜

I love making goals. I almost always forget I made them, but still. 😉 I want to try making a reading journal next year and be creative and arty with it and just have fun! But we’ll see if I can stick to that haha.😂 And the TBR jar sounds AMAZING. GOOD LUCK!!

    • HEHE, THANK YOU! I hope so too, it’s a bit goal but hey, it’s good to be ambitious! WOW, 3K is just awesome! Same here, which is why I put my goals up here so i could remember them! A read journal sounds awesome but I’d probably just fail! Thank you, hope you have a wonderful 2017!

  6. I really need to use Bloglovin’. I’m on there but do absolutely nothing with it, which is terrible!
I’d love to see Fantastic Beasts, but don’t think I’ll get the chance until it comes out on DVD. I’m glad there are going to be a series of them 🙂
    Great plans for next year!

  7. I didn’t realise that I wasn’t already following your blog, but apparently I wasn’t! I LOVE your blog layout – it IS AMAZING!!! It looks so cute! Happy new year – good luck with all these resolutions. As for the 1000 followers – I don’t think that’s too far off. Your blog is lovely 🙂 xx

  9. I love this! you’ve done a fantastic job of evaluating your last year and making substantive goals for next year. I did something similar with the help of a freebie from Mel Robbins – I had never thought before that prior to setting goals for the new year we should evaluate the previous year – ingenious! and it made such a difference. Off to check out some of your best of posts! Happiest of New Years to you!

  10. I loved reading about your plan for 2017 and I really hope that you’ll achieve all of your resolutions – I KNOW for a fact that the 1000 followers one will definitely happen! Also, I’ve said this before but I’m in love with your design and if I do change my URL in the future, I’d love it if you could design my header 🙂 Hope you have a brilliant year ahead! x

  11. Those are some great goals! I’m planning on doing some volunteer work over the summer aswell, and being eco friendly is always a good thing (too bad the town I moved to doesn’t have recycle pick-up *sobs).

I’ve considered starting a bullet journal, but I think I’d spend so much time stressing over it being perfect that in the end it would be rather counterproductive, for now I’ll just admire other people’s journals.

    • Thanks! And wow, that’s awesome! Your town doesn’t sound too ec-friendly….Trust me, my bullet journal is nothing like what you see on Pinterest. It is very much scribbles, ink and doodles. Hopefully my next BuJo will be a bit more prettier (in my dreams 😀 )
